Buy Local Week

City Council Proclaims 8th Annual Buy Local Week

Since 2007, Mile High Business Alliance members have been mobilizing Coloradans to shop at local businesses first. Every year, Americans do most of their holiday gift shopping the week after Thanksgiving, starting on Black Friday. In 2013, Coloradans spent more than 10 Billion dollars during the holidays, which represents a huge chunk of annual revenue for retailers. Since this week has such a big impact on your neighborhood retailers, we've proclaimed this week to be Buy Local Week. A shift of just 10% of your holiday purchases from chain stores to local retailers could translate to a $3 Billion boost to Colorado's economy this year.

We're proud to have the support of Denver City Council, which proclaimed the 8th Annual Buy Local week on Monday. Find out more about how to find and support local businesses during the holidays and beyond at milehighbiz.org/buylocalweek

Denver Coffee Guide

Drink Local First: Denver Coffee Guide

We're working year round to promote a healthier local economy by encouraging the community to choose independent businesses over their national counterparts, and coffee is no exception. Even though coffee isn't grown in Colorado, choosing to buy your beans from a local roaster or your daily dose of java from a local coffee shop has a huge impact on the Colorado economy.

Modeled after our Local Flavor Neighborhood Guides™, the Denver Coffee Guide explores some of the coffee-making process while celebrating Denver's locally-owned coffee roasters and purveyors and showcasing the unique neighborhood spots that make Denver great. So pick up a copy or download your own and start getting local-wise to the Denver coffee scene! Find out more at milehighbiz.org/coffee

Legislative Breakfast at Havu

Update: Legislative Breakfast Debrief

On November 13, the Mile High Business Alliance hosted its 3rd Annual Legislative Breakfast.  Held at the beautiful Havu Gallery, the Legislative Breakfast was an opportunity for MHBA members and Colorado legislators to interact about issues impacting small businesses, the local economy, and the policy agenda for the 2015 Legislative Session.  With breakfast provided by Snooze AM Eatery, coffee from Huckleberry Roasters, and sponsorship from Appaloosa Grill, several members and legislators had a powerful conversation concerning the FAMLI Act, procurement, taxes, investing, and growing local businesses.

Free Webinar December 17

Often, policies are made without consideration for the impacts on small businesses or their employees. We're striving to change that by engaging more small businesses in discussions and learning about the Colorado FAMLI Act, an effort to create an employee-paid insurance program to provide a portion of wage replacement to eligible workers who take qualified extended family medical leave. Join MHBA and the American Sustainable Business Council for this educational event on 12/17.

Advance registration is required.
