August Declared Colorado Proud Month

Buy Local to Celebrate 10th Anniversary of Colorado Proud

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Summer in Colorado showcases a bounty of fresh produce, succulent meats and specialty foods at grocery stores, farmers’ markets and restaurants across the state. To promote Colorado agriculture and celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Colorado Proud, Governor Bill Ritter has declared August as Colorado Proud Month.

“We are lucky to live in a state where farmers and ranchers provide us with an abundance of safe, high-quality food and agricultural products,” said John R. Stulp, Commissioner of the Colorado Department of Agriculture. “August is the perfect time to show our support by buying locally grown, raised or processed food products.”

Colorado Proud, created by the Colorado Department of Agriculture in 1999, promotes locally grown, raised or processed food and agricultural products to consumers statewide. Currently, the program has more than 1,100 members including growers, processors, restaurants, retailers and associations. Colorado agribusinesses contribute nearly $16 billion annually to the state economy and provide more than 105,000 jobs.

“I encourage everyone to look for the Colorado Proud logo and buy local wherever you shop or dine,” said Stulp. “Buying products with the Colorado Proud logo benefits our local farmers, ranchers and processors as well as the state economy.”
